Cracow
Why is it worth visiting the historic and royal city of
Krakow?
There are many answers to this question, but anyone who has been
here before knows the answer. Its long history, its unique atmosphere
and cultural abundance make this city very attractive.
Kings have lived here, as well as some of Poland’s most famous
artists; great works of art and literature have come into existence
right here. Here is where legends were born and traditions cultivated.
Over 5 million tourists visit Krakow each year, to admire the city
but also to leave a trace of themselves behind. Hundreds of cafes,
pubs and restaurants have sprung up in the last several years –
amidst this Krakow’s unique atmosphere, you can meet many
foreign visitors, savouring cuisines from all over the world!
However, the more traditional pierogi, kielbasa, bigos and zurek
have not lost favour with tourists or locals! Polish cuisine tastes
best in Krakow!
Krakow is a city of young people – more than 60% of its population is under 45! There is a thriving night life in Krakow – the number of cultural and artistic events rises with each year. Over 40 festivals take place in Krakow annually!
Its history, which goes back centuries, has
left behind many keepsakes in Krakow. You will find here monuments
from every era. This beauty has been recognized the world through
which is why Krakow is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
That is no surprise – the first reference to Krakow was made
in the year 956, and archaeological finds have given proof of the
city’s existence even in the Stone Age!
It is one of Europe’s oldest cities, so it is one to mark
on your traveller’s map! This is especially true ever since
experts from the Project for Public Space (PPS), an American non-profit
organization, which has for the past 30 years been carrying out
work for the revitalization of urban public spaces, decided that
Krakow’s market place is unequalled in the world!
It is worth seeing and visiting Krakow, where a great number of
attractions await you.
Enjoy Europe’s biggest market-place while listening to St.
Mary’s Church bugle-call, or take part in one of the numerous
events which Krakow organizes, also available to foreign visitors.
